Why does the Fibonacci sequence appear in nature?

I keep seeing videos about how pinecones, sunflowers, and even galaxies follow the Fibonacci sequence. Is this a real mathematical pattern in nature or just selective observation? What's the evolutionary or physical reason behind this recurring number pattern?

Fibonacci patterns appear in some natural systems because of growth and packing constraints, not because nature is trying to display a famous sequence. In plants, new leaves or seeds often grow at angles that avoid covering older ones. The golden angle, about $$137.5^\circ,$$ is related to the golden ratio and can produce visible spiral counts that are neighboring Fibonacci numbers. But there is an important caution: not every spiral in nature is Fibonacci. Some shells, storms, and galaxies are better modeled by logarithmic spirals or other growth patterns. So the honest answer is: - Fibonacci numbers appear when a growth process repeatedly packs new parts efficiently, - the golden ratio can emerge from avoiding overlap, - many popular examples are simplified or exaggerated. The mathematics is real, but the internet sometimes makes it sound more universal than it is.
